In celebration of Shakespeare's 400 years in 2023 a special original one off mixed media artwork.
The boxed work is covered in literary labels with hints and hidden meanings to hamlet's most famous literature.
There is the famous skull with blood stained hand prints, (artist hand) on it painted in thick black and white paint to stand out. The teeth are not teeth but the play's name Hamlet.
The skull has a dagger and king's crown, which is featured in the play. The lettering and words are for the viewer to choose the meaning to what they acquired from the play. The whole work is covered in artist sculpture acrylic black beads which make the work painful to the hand to hold, which I wanted as a real effect.
Hamlet a life of contemplation, a life of philosophy.
Young Hamlet returns home from university to discover the world-shattering news that, not only is his father (Old Hamlet) newly dead, but that his mother, Gertrude, has married Old Hamlet's brother, Claudius, and that Claudius is now king. The resultant instability has also led to threats of invasion by a solider from a neighbouring state.
